HTML5 Audio and Video Framework for WordPress Plugin
Posted by Garuna on August 4, 2010HTML5 Audio and Video Framework is designed to be a highly customisable plugin for wordpress that allows advanced users to add their own JavaScript Libraries, or other JavaScript Libraries such as VideoJS and JW Player for HTML5 within the WordPress theme file header.php via advanced options. You may want to have a look at the JavaScript Library page on the project wiki.
The framework is designed to be compatible with mobile devices that use WebKit or Opera Mobile/Mini and XML feeds such as RSS, for example if that mobile device is detected or RSS feed are used the framework will not load any JavaScript and will use the Video for Everybody principle, if iOS or iPhoneOS is detected and below 4.0 the framework will also cancel out all incompatible format from video source list but leave the download links behind, so it will only show the extensions mp4 or m4v (.ext.mp4 or .main.mp4 for iPad with iOS 3.2 or above).
The framework is also designed to be compatible with browsers that do not render HTML5 Audio or Video such as Internet Explorer 8 or below, because the framework will also include the fallback flash player, FlowPlayer 3.2 for both video and audio provided that you include either mp4 for video or mp3 for audio within the syntax, FlowPlayer 3.2 and HTML5 video have both things in common, that would be the overlay video control bar, making FlowPlayer 3.2 the perfect choice and that why it got included with the framework. Adobe has already announced support for webm will be included into the next version of Flash.
The framework use two kinds of syntax, the simple syntax which is limited to URL’s, poster, width and height, and the advanced syntax which uses JSON which support all kinds of attributes for video and audio even if it not on the HTML5 specification, see syntax page for details.
The framework currently support mp4(h.264,aac), ogg(theora, vorbis), mp3(audio only) and also webm (vp8,vorbis).

WebM – an Open Video Format for the Web
Posted by Garuna on July 2, 2010From Google Operating System:
Google is about to launch WebM, an open video format that will use VP8, the flagship video codec of On2. As you probably remember, On2 has been recently acquired by Google.
“The WebM project is dedicated to developing a high-quality, open video format for the web that is freely available to everyone. The WebM launch is supported by Mozilla, Opera, Google and more than forty other publishers, software and hardware vendors.”
“WebM is an open, royalty-free media file format designed for the web. WebM files consist of video streams compressed with the VP8 video codec and audio streams compressed with the Vorbis audio codec. The WebM file structure is based on the Matroska media container,” explains Google.
WebM’s site says that the new codec will be supported in Google Chrome, Firefox, Opera and you’ll be able to play YouTube videos by enabling YouTube’s HTML5 experiment.

What is VP8, WebM, and HTML5 video?
Posted by Garuna on May 20, 2010From Zencoder
What is WebM? VP8?
VP8 is a video codec, like H.264, VP6, Theora, etc.
WebM is two things: a container format (based on Matroska), and the name for an open-source video project.
Presumably, WebM could contain other open video and audio codecs down the road.
What’s the deal with HTML5 video?
Fast-forward a bit. HTML5 includes a <video> tag, like an <img> tag, which browsers will use to natively play video, without requiring a plugin (e.g. Flash Player or Sliverlight). But it doesn’t specify a standard codec.
Firefox and Opera backed Theora, an open source codec, but a generation or two behind the best video codecs available today. Theora is actually based on On2 VP3, which On2 released under a BSD-like license several years ago. Apple and Microsoft won’t include Theora support in their browsers because it’s worse than H.264, and because they’re concerned about submarine patents.
Safari and IE backed H.264, which is the best codec on the market, but not free. H.264 requires a license from MPEG-LA (who manages the patent pool). The terms aren’t currently onerous; H.264 is free or cheap for most users, at least in 2010. But that could change down the road, and even if it doesn’t, the folks behind Firefox and Opera don’t want to use a patent encumbered codec for philosophical and pragmatic reasons.
So at the moment, HTML5 video is at an impasse. Firefox and Opera won’t support H.264, and IE and Safari won’t support Theora. (Google Chrome, incidentally, supports both.)

Tips for creating FLV and F4V files – Premiere Pro CS5
Posted by Garuna on May 15, 2010Work with video in the native format of your project until your final output
If you convert a precompressed digital video format into another compressed format such as the FLV or F4V format, the previous encoder can introduce video noise. The first compressor already applied its encoding algorithm to the video, reducing its quality, frame size, and frame rate. That compression could have introduced digital artifacts: noise. This noise affects the final encoding process, and a higher data rate is often required to encode a good-quality file.
Strive for simplicity
Avoid elaborate transitions"they don’t compress well and can make your final compressed video look “chunky” during the change. Hard cuts compress better than dissolves.
Know your audience data rate
When you deliver video over the Internet, produce files at lower data rates. Users with fast Internet connections can view the files with little or no delay for loading, but dial'up users must wait for files to download. Make the clips short to keep the download times within acceptable limits for dial'up users.
Select the proper frame rate
Frame rate indicates frames per second (fps). If you have a higher data rate clip, a lower frame rate can improve playback through limited bandwidth. For example, if you compress a clip with little motion, cutting the frame rate in half can save you only 20% of the data rate. However, if you compress high-motion video, reducing the frame rate has a much greater effect on the data rate.
Because video looks much better at native frame rates, leave the frame rate high if your delivery channels and playback platforms allow. For web delivery, get this detail from your hosting service. For mobile devices, use the device-specific encoding presets and the device emulator available through Adobe Media Encoder in Adobe Premiere Pro. If reducing the frame rate, the best results come from dividing the frame rate by whole numbers.
